Department Manager Word:

‘..Allah is He Who has created the heavens and the earth and sends down water (rain) from the sky, and thereby brought forth fruits as provision for you; and He has made the ships to be of service to you, that they may sail through the sea by His Command; and He has made rivers (also) to be of service to you’. (Sorat Ibrahim, 32)

God has bestowed upon us many of nature’s gifts to use wisely; such include living (plants and animals) and non-living (air, water and soil). Humans learn to adapt to the previous factors and are expected to coexist with Mother Nature as a single entity. Therefore, balance is required when using nature and overexploitation of natural resources need to be avoided. Such was seen in the past when hunters and gatherers used natural resources properly whereas today, due to technology and reckless behavior, there is a high level of depletion of these natural products.

There is about more than 800 kinds of species that have gone extinct in the past couple of years, probably due to the loss or destruction of their natural habitats. More like 5000 more are threatened to go extinct in the next few years unless caution measures are undertaken.

Dr. Mona Hussain
